How to Make Hwajeon (Sweet Flower Pancakes)

Hwajeon is a tasty Korean snack that is simple and requires very few ingredients. It has come to be popular because it uses a variety of colors from dissimilar flowers to make each snack unique in its own way. As long as you have the ingredients to make hwajeon, anyone, fluctuating from toddlers to adults, can make and eat this snack. Here is how to make this tasty snack.

The ingredients that you will need are: sweet rice flower, salt, water, vegetable oil, edible flowers, and honey.
The first thing that we need to do is make the dough. Take about a cup of sweet rice flower, add a pinch of salt, and mix while slowly pouring in 1/2 cup of hot water. Mix and knead the dough until it is firm. Then divide your dough evenly into about 10 pieces and roll them into a ball. Cover the balls of dough with a wet cloth so that it doesn't dry out.

Next, get your edible flowers and wash them thoroughly, but not so hard as to damage the leaves of the flowers. Once you have done that, leave them off to the side.

Now grab the balls of dough and flatten them out into disk shaped pieces and on top of the disks, put the flower that you want on top. Make sure to push the flower into the dough so that when you flip it while cooking, the leaves won't fall out.

Heat up a medium sized frying pan to about medium to medium-high, add some vegetable oil, and lay the disks on the pan to cook. Once the bottom of the pancake is done, flip it and cook it so that the flowers wilt, but not burn.

Now lay the pancakes on a plate and serve by drizzling a little honey over each piece or by pouring the honey in a bowl and letting the eaters dip while eating.

Teach your friends how to make hwajeon and have a great time while doing it.
