Can You Still Lose Weight by Mixing Real Food With Medifast Meals?

I recently heard from man who was interested in the Medifast diet but who didn't know if she wanted to commit to the diet full time. She told me, in part: "I'm pretty sure that I could substitute a shake or two for my meals throughout the day, but I don't want to deprive myself of real food on a daily basis. Would I still lose weight this way?"

I know a good deal of folks who are on a sort of part time Medifast plan of their own design. But, I have to stress that you do prepare your own "real food" once a day on this diet. It's ">It's not as if you're eating the diet's meals for every singular meal. Once per day, you make a larger "lean and green meal" on your own. This is where you get to be creative and come up with your own meals with fresh and "real" ingredients. Of course, you can't just eat what you want with wild abandon or you might lose the gains that you've already made for the day. But, as long as you come up with a meal that includes lean protein with vegetables and supervene the guidelines you're given, you have quite a bit of leeway.

Pan Cake

Understanding That Medifast Isn't All About A Calorie Deficit, It's About Ketosis Also: Sometimes, I find that citizen assume that you lose weight on Medifast because you take in less calories. And, this is surely part of it. By and large, you take in colse to 1,000 calories each day on this diet. This alone would originate a calorie deficit that causes weight loss. But Medifast is also sufficient because it limits your carbs and sugars while bumping up your protein and fiber. This puts your body in a metabolic state called ketosis. And this typically brings about more dramatic and faster weight loss.

That's not to say that any reduction in calories isn't going to help you lose weight. It can. But it can happen in a slower manner and be less dramatic then if you just followed the agenda for five of your meals and incorporated your lean and green meal.

Finally, citizen sometimes tell me that it's their intention to replace a few of their daily meals with the diet's shakes and bars. This is potential since they surely sell their products individually, but you should also know that shakes and bars aren't your only options. There's also eggs, soups, chili, pancakes, ice cream, brownies, chips, cappuccino, oatmeal, and fruit drinks. You may well have more flexibility and options than you think.

So while replacing some of your meals with the diet's meals would most surely save you some calories and supervene in weight loss, I doubt that your results would be as dramatic as if you followed the former agenda (where you could still eat "real" food) and were able to get into ketosis also.

With low carb lifestyles being all the rage when it comes to being healthy, many restaurants are beginning to offer minimum carb options on their menus. And restaurants aren't the only ones embracing this healthy lifestyle; there are really hundreds of websites and cookbooks dedicated to assorted types of low carb lifestyles. Even dietitians and doctors agree that by eating the right balances of foods, together with carbs, you can significantly sell out the risk of many types of diseases. The benefits of a microscopic carb lifestyle are well documented and accepted, leaving you just one thing to answer: where can I get recipes for low carb pancakes?

Of course, that's not the only demand you'll have, just a good example! While fewer carb lifestyles can be very healthy and beneficial for most people, it can be hard getting used to eating in new ways. But for the sake of argument, we'll stick with the low carb pancakes question. The basic idea behind less carb recipes is altering them in ways that make them taste "normal", but reducing the whole of carbs in them. Almond and soy flour are often used as substitutes in many pancake recipes, and splenda is used in place refined white sugar.

Pan Cake

With these substitution, the consistency is going to be a microscopic separate than "normal" pancakes, as is the taste. However, there are many separate recipes for low carb pancakes, many of which are very tasty. As with whatever new, you'll have to experiment with assorted recipes to find ones that are healthy and taste good. Less carb doesn't all the time mean healthy, in that often lower carb recipes don't include the nutrients you need to be healthy. If you are serious about living a minimum carb lifestyle, it's important to select a method, such as the Zone Diet, and stick with it.

Many of the fewer carb lifestyle methods are really very similar, and when followed correctly, can help you live a healthier lifestyle straight through eating right. The good diets all the time have books about how to get started, as well as cookbooks, which are going to be your best resource for low carb pancakes - or whatever else you might want to cook. About Baking - Eight Tips for excellent Pancakes

Pancakes are easy and roughly foolproof. But there are some tricks to making them perfect. We'd like to share those tips:

1. Use a low gluten flour. We like to use unbleached pastry flour in our recipes-that's what our mixes are made with-but all purpose flour will do. Bread flour makes for a pancake that it too tough and chewy.

Pan Cake

2. Don't over mix. Mixing develops the gluten in the batter. Mix the dry ingredients together to dispense the leavening throughout the flour. Mix the recipe's wet ingredients together in another bowl. Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients and mix until just moistened. There will still be lumps. That's okay-they'll cook out.

3. Get the batter the right consistency. The batter should be runny adequate that it will spread on the griddle. If it is too runny, the pancakes will be crepe-like. As you improve through the batch, the batter will tend to come to be thicker as the leavenings work. Add a puny more water or milk as needed but remember to stir minimally.

4. Put in order the griddle. Very lightly grease the griddle with a puny shortening or with an aerosol can of vegetable oil.

5. Get the griddle hot enough. Set the griddle on high or medium-high heat. When the griddle is hot enough, water droplets will dance on the surface. After putting batter on the griddle, turn the heat to medium.

6. Cook uniform-sized pancakes. Use a 1/3-cup portion for medium-sized pancakes and a 1/2-cup portion for larger pancakes.

7. Cook it right. You can tell when it's time to turn the pancake by watching the bubbles form and watching the edges of the pancakes. The bubbles tend to cook into puny craters and the edges will be dry-looking when the pancake is ready to turn. A puny practice makes perfect.

8. Keep your pancakes hot. Pancakes are best if steaming hot. As you take the pancakes off the grill, cover them lightly with aluminum foil. If it's going to be more than a few minutes before they are eaten, stick the loosely covered plate in an oven heated to 275 degrees. For a special touch, heat the empty plates in the oven before serving.

tasty Banana Pancake recipe

2 cups all-purpose flour
5 tablespoons sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
2 cups milk
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus more for sautéing the banana pieces
2-3 bananas, peeled and diced into small chunks
4 ounces of powdered sugar
1 Sifter for powdered sugar to add to done pancakes.

First you will sift the flour and baking powder to take off any lumps. Second you will heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat and sauté the banana pieces in pan and once golden brown, remove, and cool.  Once the banana pieces cool you will add it to the batter and mix until evenly distributed, so just put these to the side and wait to add them until you are ready for them.  Now you will whisk the sifted flour and baking powder, sugar, and salt in a medium bowl. The next step you will add the eggs, milk, and half of the melted butter and whisk until combined, but still slightly lumpy. Now you will add the cool banana pieces and mix until distributed throughout the batter and fold them into the batter, do not over work the batter. If you overwork the batter the pancakes will not rise properly.

Now you are ready to make banana pancakes. You will then ladle about 3 to 4 ounces into the pan and cook until you see bubbles all over the covering of the side up in the pan. You will then flip the banana pancake, and cook until the bottom is a golden brown color. You will take off from the pan and serve immediately, or you can add them to a plate and cover, or to a baking sheet in the oven on its bottom setting until you have all of the batter cooked.

Garnish, You can take an extra banana if you have one or save about half of one banana and slice them into thin slice. You will sauté the banana slices in butter until golden, add to the top of the pancakes and then dust with a small estimate of powdered sugar.  Serve.

3/4 cup of Scottish Oatmeal
2 teaspoons of baking powder

1/4 cup of melted butter

Mix the dry ingredients such as the oatmeal and flour, baking soda and salt. Add the buttermilk, melted butter and beaten eggs. Mix all the ingredients until smooth. You can add some more buttermilk if the aggregate is too thick. Let the aggregate stand for half an hour. Heat a pan with a wee melted butter and spoon the aggregate into the hot pan.

The Best morning meal in the World

The best morning meal in the world sounds like a slogan dreamed up by a slick city hotel to drum up enterprise for the first meal of the day. Whether you start the day with steak stuffed with oysters (Australia), miso soup (Japan) or the full fried English version with eggs, bacon, sausages and beans, morning meal is important.

There was a extraordinary slogan in Britain in the 1950s "Go to work on an egg" to encourage enjoyment of the meal, and the day, by starting with an egg or two. Eggs do as a matter of fact form a crucial part of breakfasts colse to the world, perhaps because they are unsuited for meals at other times of the day.

Pan Cake

Having enjoyed breakfasts in every continent, fluctuating from the plate of shredded tuna mixed with coconut and onions in the Maldives to the cheese platters of Europe, I believe I have found the best morning meal in the world. Since I am not trying to promote any hotel that serves this particular dish, you can trust me.

Breakfast is best in Sri Lanka.

However, if you favour a light repast in the middle of tumbling out of bed, washing, dressing, and heading off to work, forget it. Stick to your coffee and toast.

The Sri Lankan morning meal cannot be a rushed meal. Indeed, it is not even served early in the morning. It is usually eaten some hours after rising and when people have already done several chores for the day. Thus, by the time it is served you have already built up an appetite rather than coming to the morning meal table level from bed with no desire for anyone more than a strong coffee.

In Sri Lanka the day starts with bed tea (that is tea served in bed) rather than breakfast.

Freshly made juice, or good a slice of fruit like papaya or pineapple, gets the Sri Lankan morning meal off to a refined start. In village houses, though, juice or fruit is not part of the ritual.

The Sri Lankan morning meal is already set out on the table by the time people meet to eat it. That's because it doesn't have to be served hot (as buttered toast does). In fact, the dishes are spicy adequate that a dinky time marinating on the table does the food a lot of good; it matures the flavour.

The star of the morning meal is the curry, be it beef, chicken or fish. Beef curry is favoured in the hill country where appetites are healthy and cattle are reared.

There is a chorus line of vegetable curries, like lentils and a white curry of coconut milk. Tempered potatoes (that's boiled potatoes tossed in hot oil and onions) can be included, as well as sweet fried onion sambol and grated coconut with crushed chilli sambol (a relish).

A range of breads make up the supporting cast of the morning meal play. The junior lead is as a matter of fact egg hoppers (a kind of pancake made of rice flour with a fried egg in the centre) and lowly hoppers, crisp and without the egg. String hoppers, like a nest of noodles are also used to soak up the curries.

Sometimes there is roti, a pan fried mix of coconut and flour, as well as village baked bread (soft and flavoursome straight through being cooked in a wood fired oven).

The curries are spooned onto the plate and eaten with the fingers of the right hand, using the hoppers or bread to capture the mix and carry it to the eager mouth.

It is not the most elegant breakfast, but as a matter of fact the most satisfying.

Melt-in-your-Mouth Blueberry Waffles With Buttery Maple Syrup

I am a big fan of breakfast, and I am all the time finding for dissimilar recipes to spice up my mornings. And I believe there is no great way to start your day than with some warm, crunchy waffles. And my favorite waffles are blueberry waffles with some warm, sticky buttery maple syrup. The sweetness of the waffles combined with the tartness of the blueberries just gives you a complete culinary explosion in your mouth. And let's not forget it will make you feel like you are doing something good for yourself, after all, you are eating fruit. I got this succulent method from watching a chef on the Food Network. He was making ready a whole lot of things for breakfast, but these mouthwatering waffles were the ones that caught my eye. And today, I am going to teach you how to do them. Just let me warn you, this is not for habitancy who are trying to watch their calories intake.

First of all, pre-heat your waffle maker at medium temperature. To be honest, nobody feels like cooking a lot in the morning, so to speed things up, just grab a box of pre-made pancake and waffle mix and mix with the assigned ingredients in a big bowl with a wire whisk. Make sure your batter is consistent adequate so it can hold up all those tangy blueberries. When all the big lumps in your batter are gone, toss a small pack of fresh blueberries in the mix. Very gently, fold them into the mix. This way you will avoid popping them, and trust me, nobody wants blue waffles. When your batter is ready, take it over to your pre-greased waffle maker. Cook them until your waffles are crisp on the edges.

Pan Cake

So while your waffles are cooking, let me teach you how to get ready the syrup. The method is extremely easy and it tastes great. Just drop half a stick of butter in a boiler. When the butter is almost thoroughly melted pour in 2 cups of pure maple syrup and give it a quick stir with a wire whisk an just like that, you are all done.

Has it ever happened to you that when you are manufacture a batter you put in a rotten egg and the whole thing is ruined? Well, let me tell you a petite secret to avoid this messy problem. If you want to make sure your eggs are fresh, fill up a glass with water and drop the egg in it. If it sinks, the egg is perfectly fresh. This happens because when the egg rotten it forms an air pocket in the middle of the eggshell and the egg, manufacture it float. Trust me, with this petite trick I assure you this will never happen to you again.

After 7-15 minutes your waffles should be crispy on the surface and spongy on the inside. Take them out and serve them on a plate. To make them look a petite nicer, sprinkle some powdered sugar over them and put some whipped cream and some fresh blueberries to top it off.

After all that time cooking you must be hungry right? Well just sit at your table with a good glass of milk and pour your hot syrup over your waffles and enjoy. You can eat them alone or enjoy them with person else. If I were you, I would eat them by myself because they are so good you would not want to share them. I only have one more tip to give you, with all those tangy blueberries and sweet syrup, just make sure you wear loose pants.

Twinkie Trivia

Did you know that Twinkies were introduced while the Depression in Chicago. This petite yellow snack cake filled with a mere 160 calories and yummy vanilla cream is enjoyed around the world. Chicago is still the amount one Twinkie eating city in the United States, but you can enjoy them anywhere. When they first were introduced Twinkies were filled with Banana Cream. This changed while World War Ii when the United States suffered a banana shortage. Hostess did start to offer banana cream filled Twinkies as a special promotion a few years ago.

My personal perceive was they are hard to find. When I wrote to Hostess they sent me a few coupons and their apologies. I did get the pleasure a year latter when the illusive banana cream filled Twinkie showed back up on my grocers shelves.

Pan Cake

If you are finding for a new way to serve and old time favorite I do have a combine of suggestions. I must warn you, that if your house is like mine you may suffer some diplomatic teasing about re-inventing the Twinkie. My personal favorite has been to deep fry my Twinkies in a pancake batter. They do great when left whole, if cut in half the vanilla cream tends to ooze out. I have never tried it with the banana cream filled version. I find that I am all the time a bit to excited to tinker with the original. A second more decadent treat is to pull out your favorite Tiramisu method and substitute the Twinkies for lady fingers.

To avoid having soggy ones for breakfast, cover a baking sheet with paper towel, stack your pancakes onto it and put them into a 200F oven, until ready to be eaten. Have A Pancake Party!

Are your kids tired of clowns, piñatas, and pin the tail on the donkey? If you are fresh out of party ideas, don't worry, there is always breakfast. Huh? Yes, breakfast. You can have a pancake party! Throwing a pancake party is something distinct that your child's friends probably haven't had. It is fun and unique and very simple! Keep reading to find out how easy it is to throw a pancake bash.

You can begin by selecting your pancake theme Of course it will be pancakes, but are you going to make pancake shapes, colored pancakes, pancake people, etc.? You can be as creative as you would like. It could be a chocolate pancake party and you can have the kids make chocolate pancakes and use chocolate chips and other chocolate treats to decorate the pancakes. You might decree to make huge pancakes in a cake pan and have them use cookie cutters to cut out shapes. Or you can be straightforward and make regular pancakes but have lots of distinct toppings for them such as fruit, candy, whipped cream, or ice cream.

Pan Cake

Next, you will need to buy your ingredients and supplies. Wait until you know how many kids will be arrival before you do this so that you have sufficient but not too much. Make a list and use a method to make sure you don't forget anything. You will need basic ingredients such as flour, eggs, and milk, but also make sure you have sufficient supplies for the kids to use such as spatulas, spoons, bowls, and pans. Of course, you will also need serving supplies such as utensils, plates, napkins, and cups. Use fun colorful tablecloth designs or colors that will match what you are doing. For example, you can do a tropical theme with colorful fruit and tropical decorations and use a lot of fruit with the pancakes. Have a plan before the party. If the kids know you don't know what you're doing, they might go crazy and take advantage of the situation by manufacture a mess. Set up individual stations for each task. Have one group portion the ingredients, an additional one mix, and an additional one pour on the pan. Make sure the kids aren't too young that they can burn themselves on the pan. You might want to do this part yourself or have fullness of management around. Have each of the kids dress up their own pancakes.

This is a excellent idea that you can personalize. Have the kids draw their names in batter or in icing on the pancakes. Let them each use distinct colors. Have available many distinct toppings and let them do whatever they want. Make sure to warn them when you think some foods won't go well together so that they don't waste food because it tastes bad. You can even have party favors such as baking utensils or cookies.

Have fun with this party idea. You might even want to switch from pancakes to French toast or waffles, or consist of them all! The point is to get them involved. They will have lots of fun and maybe even learn a puny about baking.

Brittany's Sweet Tooth Pride

We look at one of France's favourite snacks originating from Brittany and observe how it became a dessert.

The word crepe is french for pancake, they are often made with flour, eggs, milk, butter and a pinch of salt. There are two types of crepes one is sweet ordinarily made with wheat flour and is sweetened and the other is savoury made with buckwheat and is unsweetened.

Pan Cake

Crepes are the pride and joy of Brittany, there they make them very big and almost paper thin. Most of the time they eat them with a slight of caster sugar on top, then they would roll or fold it up into four while drinking cider which would be brewed in the same area.

When crepes were first made; white flour wasn't an selection to everyone. This is due to it being reserved for royalty which is why original crepes are made with Buckwheat as it is an easy plant to grow. Then farmers started becoming wealthier and began to purchase more white flour in order to make more richer crepes. They started eating them as an after evening meal treat or they would have it for breakfast.

In Paris and the south of France is where crepes became known as a inherent sweetmeat dish and still is served in top class restaurants. You could say this is thanks to a young French man called Henri Charpentier who was the inventor of the crepes Suzzette, the most popular of all the crepe variations. It has an intelligent story of how it came to be and how it got its name. As Henri was preparing a crepe for the Prince of Wales he accidentally set it on fire. Not having sufficient time to make someone else one he gave the crepe to the Prince of Wales. He loved it and asked what the name of it was, Henri conception quick on the spot and called it crepes Princesse. The prince saw that the pancake controlled the gender and that this was a compliment designed for him; but he protested with mock ferocity that there was a lady present. She was alert and rose to her feet and holding her slight shirt wide with her hands she made him a curtsey. 'Will you,' said His Majesty, 'change Crepes Princesse to Crepes Suzette?' Thus was born and baptised this confection.

Today crepes can have discrete fillings in them for sweet crepes for Maple syrup, Nutella (a chocolate spread), sugar and fruit are popular. For savoury crepes cheese, eggs, mushrooms, Ham and discrete meats. Also there are special takeaway restaurants and stalls called creperies, these serve crepes as a form of fast food or if its a restaurant its more than likely to be expert crepes that require you tom sit down to eat them

But to no ifs ands or buts eating a crepe is by going to Brittany wake up order a original crepe from one of the locals and have it for morning meal in one of the many Gites in Brittany, or you could wait later in the day and have it in true Brittany fashion with some cider.

Buckwheat Pancakes - A morning meal formula With significant Oils

Pancakes are one of my favored special weekend breakfasts. Buckwheat pancakes with vital oils for added taste can be a great alternative to original pancakes! But with a tendency to having low blood sugar, I have to stay away from original pancakes.

Most pancakes and waffles are regularly made from refined white flour. Especially when combined with syrup, they are very High Glycemic Index foods. Foods high in the glycemic index often cause a rapid rise in blood-glucose or blood sugar. This leads to immoderate insulin production and a sudden drop in blood sugar. Vigor crashes, along with mood, clarity of mind and strength.

Pan Cake

For those with Low Blood Sugar, this method can be a breathtaking way to still have that special treat while maintaining more balanced blood sugar levels.

Preparation:
Mix in a bowl;
2/3 cup Buckwheat Pancake Mix
3/4 cup Pure Vegetable Oil
2/3 cup Rice Milk, unsweetened
1 Tablespoon Blue Agave or adjust whole for Stevia
1-2 Tablespoons of Arrowroot Flour instead of Eggs
A Touch of Pure Vanilla Extract
2-6 Drops of Ocotea vital Oil (add whole to suit your taste - Ocotea is an vital oil from Ecuador that is great for digestion, insulin levels and has a Cinnamon like flavor that is Yum!)

Mix the dry and liquid ingredients together until no longer lumpy.
Heat up the pan until the oil or butter is sizzling hot but not burning.
Drop in the batter to make 4-5" pancakes.
For heavier pancakes use less liquid, for a lighter batter, use less arrowroot and more liquid.

This makes about 14 small pancakes. With these amounts of the ingredients, they were a bit heavy, but it is Oh so Yummy Tasting and it made One Heavenly morning meal Treat!

Low Calorie Pancake formula That Will Teach You How to Make wholesome Pancakes

There are many things that can be done to lower the fat of a beloved formula without sacrificing flavor. For example, you may find it very easy to turn a family beloved pancake formula to a low calorie pancake recipe. One of the first things to cut out in any formula to lower its fat is fat. In many recipes, especially for baking, some or all or the fat can be supplanted equally for applesauce. The applesauce keeps the goods moist but adds no fat. Applesauce only has 90 fat per half cup, but butter or margarine has 810. That means a savings of over 700 fat per half cup. Even if you switch to low fat margarine, you can cut the fat in half.

With some recipes, such as for pancakes, you may be able to leave out any added sugar. This is especially true if you are substituting applesauce for the fat. While sugar only has 15 fat per teaspoon, most of us do not stop with just one teaspoon. Choose egg whites instead of whole eggs. The whites are much lower in fat and cholesterol than are egg yolks.

Pan Cake

Although you often do not turn the calorie count by changing from white flour to whole wheat, buckwheat or oatmeal, you do growth the fiber in the food. Since the fiber is not digestible, it passes straight through your principles swiftly and effectively lowers the calorie count. In addition, the fiber has been shown to lower cholesterol count and the likelihood of cancer. Once you have made some great pancakes, you can also save fat by selecting wisely what you put on those pancakes. If you add lightly sweetened fruit or no sugar fruit spread, you may not need any butter or margarine. If you must have whipped cream or topping, Choose the light collection to save calories. The fruit may be sweetened using an artificial sweetener to lower sugar calories.

If you must use syrup on your pancakes, go light. Two tablespoons of quarterly pancake syrup has 110 calories. In contrast, the same amount of lite pancake syrup has only fifty calories. In addition, think the low fat margarine again or Choose a butter exchange spray. Although these changes may make some indispensable taste changes in your beloved recipes, they will allow you to enjoy many of your beloved foods.

In expanding to the low calorie pancake recipe, you will find that many other recipes that have been family favorites straight through the years can be converted to lower the calorie and fat content while expanding fiber for a healthier dish to set on your table.

How to Make a Healthier Pancake

Until some nutritionist uncovers a group of beneficial chemicals in pancakes she might call crepeceuticals, it is going to be difficult to commend pancakes as a salutary food. The problem with pancakes is that they can be delicious, but they are regularly not satisfying. Plain, white flour pancakes supply uncomplicated sugars and fats in large quantity, the number of uncomplicated sugars greatly increased by the increasing of syrup. Because most people need a very large pancake or some pancakes to "fill up," the body churns out large amounts of insulin, which market fat in fat cells. While you are eating pancakes, your brain tells your pancreas, "There's more, I know there's more," so the pancreas releases more insulin than it regularly would for the same number of carbohydrate.

There are ways you can make pancakes that are both yummy and satisfying. One way is to add buttermilk to the pancake batter (or, let's be honest, to use a pancake mix including buttermilk). It makes pancakes slightly crumbly, so you eat them more slowly.

Pan Cake

Buttermilk reacts with baking powder to make the pancakes lighter, so you consume less in each bite. It also gives the pancakes a tang that blunts the anticipatory response in the pancreas.

Another way you can make a great pancake is to add fiber. Use whole grain flours-but be right not to mix them into the batter too vigorously. The more you mix a quick-bread batter, the more you form the gluten in the flour, and the tougher the result. You can avoid lumps in your batter by dumping the milk composition all at once into the flour mixture, then giving it a quick whisk, just a few seconds. Your batter may not be totally lump-free (everyone will know your pancakes are homemade), but your pancakes will be light and fluffy.

The Best breakfast in the World

The best morning meal in the world sounds like a slogan dreamed up by a slick city hotel to drum up enterprise for the first meal of the day. Whether you start the day with steak stuffed with oysters (Australia), miso soup (Japan) or the full fried English version with eggs, bacon, sausages and beans, morning meal is important.

There was a astounding slogan in Britain in the 1950s "Go to work on an egg" to encourage enjoyment of the meal, and the day, by beginning with an egg or two. Eggs do unquestionably form a crucial part of breakfasts colse to the world, maybe because they are unsuited for meals at other times of the day.

However, if you favour a light repast between tumbling out of bed, washing, dressing, and heading off to work, forget it. Stick to your coffee and toast.

The Sri Lankan morning meal cannot be a rushed meal. Indeed, it is not even served early in the morning. It is regularly eaten some hours after rising and when habitancy have already done some chores for the day. Thus, by the time it is served you have already built up an appetite rather than advent to the morning meal table straight from bed with no desire for anyone more than a strong coffee.

In Sri Lanka the day starts with bed tea (that is tea served in bed) rather than breakfast.

Freshly made juice, or better a slice of fruit like papaya or pineapple, gets the Sri Lankan morning meal off to a refined start. In community houses, though, juice or fruit is not part of the ritual.

The Sri Lankan morning meal is already set out on the table by the time habitancy meet to eat it. That's because it doesn't have to be served hot (as buttered toast does). In fact, the dishes are spicy sufficient that a minuscule time marinating on the table does the food a lot of good; it matures the flavour.

A collection of breads make up the supporting cast of the morning meal play. The junior lead is unquestionably egg hoppers (a kind of pancake made of rice flour with a fried egg in the centre) and commonplace hoppers, crisp and without the egg. String hoppers, like a nest of noodles are also used to soak up the curries.

Sometimes there is roti, a pan fried mix of coconut and flour, as well as community baked bread (soft and flavoursome through being cooked in a wood fired oven).

The curries are spooned onto the plate and eaten with the fingers of the right hand, using the hoppers or bread to capture the mix and carry it to the eager mouth.

It is not the most elegant breakfast, but unquestionably the most satisfying.

How to Make Hwajeon (Sweet Flower Pancakes)

Hwajeon is a tasty Korean snack that is simple and requires very few ingredients. It has come to be popular because it uses a variety of colors from dissimilar flowers to make each snack unique in its own way. As long as you have the ingredients to make hwajeon, anyone, fluctuating from toddlers to adults, can make and eat this snack. Here is how to make this tasty snack.

The ingredients that you will need are: sweet rice flower, salt, water, vegetable oil, edible flowers, and honey.
The first thing that we need to do is make the dough. Take about a cup of sweet rice flower, add a pinch of salt, and mix while slowly pouring in 1/2 cup of hot water. Mix and knead the dough until it is firm. Then divide your dough evenly into about 10 pieces and roll them into a ball. Cover the balls of dough with a wet cloth so that it doesn't dry out.

Pan Cake

Next, get your edible flowers and wash them thoroughly, but not so hard as to damage the leaves of the flowers. Once you have done that, leave them off to the side.

Now grab the balls of dough and flatten them out into disk shaped pieces and on top of the disks, put the flower that you want on top. Make sure to push the flower into the dough so that when you flip it while cooking, the leaves won't fall out.

Heat up a medium sized frying pan to about medium to medium-high, add some vegetable oil, and lay the disks on the pan to cook. Once the bottom of the pancake is done, flip it and cook it so that the flowers wilt, but not burn.

Now lay the pancakes on a plate and serve by drizzling a little honey over each piece or by pouring the honey in a bowl and letting the eaters dip while eating.

Teach your friends how to make hwajeon and have a great time while doing it.

Eating Gluten Free at Disney World's Chef Mickey's

When we made our reservation, we told the hostess that we had a child with a food allergy. She assured us that she would make a special note of it and we would have no problems eating at Chef Mickey's. When we arrived, they seated us and immediately brought the Head Chef out to talk directly with Jac.

This was a new palpate for Jac as he has not been used to habitancy request him directly for his plan / preference. He plan he was pretty special and it additional proved to us how seriously they take food allergies at Disney World. Another thing that made us nervous is that many of the morning meal meals are set up as buffets. The Chef assured us that there were safe things for Jac to eat in the buffet and we would not need to worry about cross contamination.

Pan Cake

The Chef took Jac straight through the whole buffet, pointing out what he could and could not eat. He asked Jac what he was hungry for and gave him some gluten free options he could make for him. When Jac indicated he would like pancakes, the Chef went back to the kitchen, made him Gluten Free Mickey-shaped pancakes and served them to Jac. He ate every bite.

Twice during our meal, the Chef and the hostess came to the table to speak directly with Jac and see how he was enjoying his meal. We were delighted with our palpate at Chef Mickey's and for the first time in a while, we were all able to relax and feel comfortable eating in a restaurant.
